A controversial late penalty gifted Spurs three points at White Hart Lane yesterday, however the home side wasted a hatful of chances and should have been out of sight at half-time.Keane salutes the White Hart faithful after his decisive spot kick.Tottenham came out for the first half buzzing; three strikers on the pitch no doubt contributed to Tottenhams attacking outlook and both Corluka andA sou-Ekotto pushed forward at every opportunity. This desire for goals and fluid football totally contrasted with Citys first half performance, they struggled to create any decent attack and lookedslightly lethargic when competing for the ball. The Spurs players seemed to realise this and most of Tottenhams offensive play came from the wings. In fact, it took Tottenham only one minute to put the ball in the net- however Jermain Defoesshot was ruled off for offside.Jermain Defoe looked lively throughout the first half, and NFL Pittsburgh Steelers Jersey threatened Shay Given just before his opening goal. A tenacious Luka Modric battled well on the right flank before pa sing the ball into the box, City skipper Richard Dunne intercepted but his poor clearance fell to Jermaine Jenas who found Robbie Keane. Keane fed through Defoe who hit a low, curling shot which was beaten away for a corner by the Irish stopper.Tottenhams first goal came in the 29th minute. Jenas pa sed the ball to the imperious Tom Huddlestone who neglected to take the obvious route- Corluka was in acres of space down the right flank- but instead swung in a cro s to Defoe, who finished with a delightfully cheeky back heel from six yards out. A female Spurs fan remains remarkably calm as Defoe elbows her in the head.Robbie Keane had two gilt edged opportunities before the whistle was blown for half-time: the first came after A sou-Ekotto was allowed to roam freely along the left flank, however his eventual cro s took Keane by surprise, and the Dubliner could only watch in anguish as the ball bobbled off his shins and bounced out for a goal kick. The striker had another chance just a few minutes later. This time, Tom Huddlestone provided the cro s and, unlike his previous effort, Keane controlled Chase Claypool T Shirts the ball majestically, chestingthe ball and then pirouetting around the City defender. However he failed to make proper contact with the ball, and a fortuitous Given gobbled the scuffed effort up.You can tell its the end of the season whena number of your players succumb to injury- and Tottenham are no different. Both Jonathan Woodgate and Jermaine Jenas failed to complete the second half, and this was probably one of the contributing factors in Tottenhams poor second half showing. City suddenly stepped up a gear, the uninspired attacking duo of Petrov and Caicedo were withdrawn for Benjani and Bojinov, and the two substitutes teamed up well for Citys equaliser. Stephen Irelands ball was headed down by Benjani, allowing Bojinovto run onto the ball. With no immediate Spurs defenders to distract him, the Bulgarian coolly fired home into the top left corner- the first goal Spurs have conceded at home in seven matches.Bojinov fired City back into contentionSuddenly, Spurs looked vulnerable. However Roman Pavlyuchenko had a good chance after a good cro s from Alan Hutton. He dismally dragged his shot wide though- somehow mi sing from six yards. Immediately after, Redknapp withdrew him for Frazier Campbell. It took loanee Campbell just ten minutes to make an impre sion. After some good battling from Defoe, the ball was delivered into the City box. Given came out and comfortably caught the cro s, but Micah Richards was adjudged- somewhat harshly in a lot of peoples opinion- Pressley Harvin III Jersey to have pulled down young Campbell, thus a penalty kick was awarded to Tottenham. Robbie Keane dutifully stepped up and sent Given the wrong way- if only he hadnt have been cup-tied in the Carling Cup Final. The full time whistle blew not long after and it was with a slightly fortuitous manner that the Spurs players headed off down the tunnel, after completing their final home game of the season. Another pleasing win, and the three points keeps Tottenham in contention for a Europa League spot, but City have every right to feel aggrieved after their improved second half showing.Keane steps upHead To HeadsIn my match preview, I highlighted three battles I thought would be key to the outcome of this game:LUKA MODRIC V ELANOA bit of an unfair contest, seeing as Elano wasnt on the pitch for most of the game. He was replaced early in thefirst half by Zabaleta. Modric had a good game and was one of Tottenhams better players- without the threat of Elano he was allowed to roam free for most of the game and appeared dangerous when running at goal. Zabaleta played in a more defensive roal and put in a solid performance.WINNER: LUKA MODRIC2).KING V CAICEDO.Caicedo was extremaly di sapointing, and was withdrawn for Benjani in the second half. King had totally bo sed Caicedo, and had given the young attacker little oppurtunity to threaten. Benjani played slightly better and had a role in Citys goal, heading the ball down to Bojinov who converted. Theres no doubt that King was better than Caicedo, but if Benjani and Bojinov had been playing from the off, the scoreline could have been very different.WINNER: LEDLEY KING3).KEANE V DUNNERobbie Keane played on the left instead of his usual attacking role and thus had little chance to directly run at Dunne. Howver that doesnt mean keane didnt have chances. He should have scored a Terry Bradshaw Jersey brace in the first half and later scored the decisive penalty. Dunne had a poor game, and the City skipper will most probably be di sapointed with his performance.WINNER: ROBBIE KEANEMatch Stats and Match Ratings:Match Ratings out of 10 (in red)Tottenham:Gomes ,7 Corluka 7, Woodgate 6(Hutton 46 7), King 7, A sou-Ekotto 8, Huddlestone 8, Keane 7, Jenas 7 (Zokora 67 6), Modric 8, Pavlyuchenko 5 (Campbell 75 6), Defoe 8. There was hardly any contact and that happens. The referee may have had an angle that allowed him to think the lad had a goal-scoring chance, but really it was a poor decision.Overall it was poor. A very poor decision.Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp:We dominated the first half and came in at half-time feeling
