Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo has announced that she will be retiring from the pageant scene and will instead pursue acting and hosting opportunities.
On Thursday, during the coronation ceremony of her successor, Mateo revealed her plans for the future.
"While my reign as a beauty queen is coming to an end for the time being, I am delighted about the prospect of pursuing a career in show industry," she added. "I definitely want to try my hand at hosting and acting in the near future."
Mateo stumbled during her final minutes onstage as the reigning Miss Universe Philippines, but she quickly recovered and said, "Once you fall, you have to get back up again."
The Miss Universe pageant was held in Hollywood, Florida, USA, in May, and the Iloilo City native represented the Philippines there as well. She had to call it quits on her quest for the championship after failing to make it into the top ten.
