More monsters and magic to be expected in The Witcher Season 2

Expect more monsters and surprises in the series than in the books

The Witcher's second season will follow the first season's adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's novels, but producer Lauren S. Hissrich claims the upcoming season will include more monsters than the book it's based on.

Hissrich claimed monsters will appear more frequently than they do in the third of The Witcher novels, Blood of Elves, in an interview with Sci-Fi and Fantasy Magazine (via Redanian Intelligence) earlier this week, in part because the video games have a larger variety of creatures than the books.

"There are no creatures in Blood of Elves," Hissrich added. "There aren't that many." But, because we know from the games that fans enjoy seeing Geralt fight monsters, we kept adding additional creatures to Season 2."

The majority of Blood of Elves takes place at Kaer Morhen, the home and training grounds of the Witchers of the School of the Wolf. This is one of the reasons for the absence of monsters in the game. In preparation for what is to come, Geralt brings Ciri here to teach her in the ways of the Witcher.

This alteration may disappoint die-hard book readers, but since most fans of the series were probably introduced to it through the games, it's understandable that Hissrich would want to incorporate qualities that made the games so successful into the program.

Season 2 of The Witcher will release on Netflix on December 17th, and it will feature new characters like as Kim Bodina's Vesemir and Kristofer Hivju's Nivellen, in addition to returning actors like Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra in their roles as Geralt and Yennefer, respectively.
