Amber Portwood, star of Teen Mom , Opens Up About Her Bisexuality

Amber Portwood discussed her decision to come out in her upcoming book in a recent Teen Mom OG episode. She expressed her fear by saying, "I'm terribly afraid right now."

Amber Portwood isn't afraid to tell it like it is.

MTV reality star Teen Mom OG's producer David sat down with her to talk about her upcoming second book on the show's Oct. 12 episode.

"It has to do with my personal experiences. if you want to know the truth, "she made fun of him "[My first novel, Never Too Late, was rated PG-13 when it came out]. I recently served my sentence and am now free to pursue my interests. I'd been released from prison earlier that day. I was just making a comeback and reintroducing myself to everyone."

Amber revealed a personal revelation when asked about the second project. People may be surprised to learn that she is bisexual and previously had an eight-month romance with a woman. "I'd say I was around 20 at the time," says the subject.

Amber claims that her former boyfriend Gary Shirley is aware of her sexual orientation. It's not the case for their 12-year-old daughter Leah. To answer the question of why she decided to come out now, Amber cited her children as major inspirations. It's because of Leah and James that we're where we are today, she explained. "So that they don't look at other people who are like this with a negative attitude, that is my goal. Who am I to sit here and hide forever, which is what I was actually planning on doing anyways. I was going to go to the grave with this." Amber shares 3-year-old son James with ex Andrew Glennon. James is not featured on the show because of his dad's wishes.

Later on in the episode, Amber called her mother, Tonya, to give her a heads-up that she would be revealing new details about her life in an upcoming book.

"I'm shaking right now honestly," Amber shared while Facetiming her mom. "I have been bisexual. I'm very attracted to men, but I'm also similarly very attracted to women as well, like both."

When asked why she waited so long to tell the world about Amber, she stated, "I didn't want to burden my family with any additional stress at the time. When I was younger, it wasn't as open, so I felt embarrassed. The f-word was still being used by some... I also waited since I didn't want to offend Leah by saying anything." Tonya stated her love for Amber and promised her support should she decides to tell Leah about the relationship.

"You have nothing to be ashamed of. I'm confident that she'll be able to handle it. I believe she'll be fine with you being there "Tonya was the one who spoke up. "Instead of hearing it from someone else, she prefers to hear it from you. Whatever happens, you'll always be my baby. You have my undying affection, sweetie."

MTV airs new episodes of Teen Mom OG at 8 p.m. on Tuesdays.
