Three games that are secretly a horror game

A good scare in a horror game is always there waiting to be found if you want to find them

Horror to many people can be predictable nowadays. Sudden silence, dark and eerie surroundings, music slowly increasing volume and then a jumpscare. Those are the common tropes that really gives away the good scare we are looking for not just in TV and movies but also in games.

But the horror genre is not always like that, especially in games. Many horror games can still give you the right kind of creepiness and haunting feeling that one can look for in a horror game. But the most interesting part of this is that there are games out there that hides it so well, you wouldn’t even realize at first that you’re playing a horror game.

And this Halloween, many of us are looking for that kind of scare. With that said, here are three video games that are fun, colorful, heartwarming and down right disturbing.

Doki Doki Literature Club

Doki Doki Literature Club is a fun and cute dating sim game where you are introduced to three interesting female students that you get a chance to spend time and talk with, very unusual for a game that is tagged psychological horror.

But over time, things get a little bit disturbing. Your classmates then began to open up about abuse, depression and obsessions. And the more you play it, the more horror aspect of the game becomes apparent.

Your classmates then, one by one, commits suicide and their characters began to be erased in your game file until only one of them remains. To find out who that is or what happens next is something you would like to know for yourself once you play the game Doki Doki Literature Club.

Undertale

A famous game that many people fell in love with. From the adorable and characteristic NPCs to the unforgettable soundtracks and even the heartwarming story that you go through with the game’s protagonist is certainly a reason to love this game.

But then again, Undertale hides a deeper but hidden lore in the game’s story that will give you the chills. From unknown characters with disfigured faces, bone chilling hidden music and even secret locations that had no answers to be provided with, the game’s secret is sure to give you a whole new perspective of what the game really is about.

Minecraft

Many people never really thought that Minecraft is capable of becoming a horror game. Unlike the previous two games, Minecraft has no direct story or plot it follows. Minecraft is an open world sandbox survival game where only your creativity is the limit.

We’ve seen a lot of people play this game on Twitch, YouTube and in your cousin’s place. And we’ve seen the players of this game build towering mountains, castles and mansions above the clouds and large hidden underground bases. Truly this is a game that will make you play for hours.

But what is horrifying about this game? It is of course it’s unsettling lore. With the origins and history of the Minecraft world a blur, many fans theorized what happened to the world and why it ended up where it is. Many theories suggested ancient godlike beings created a monster they cannot kill to human civilization being overwhelmed by beings of immense power.

But what really sets the horror tone of this game lies in caves and hard to obtain disks. Cave sounds when you’re underground consist of different spine chilling noises. Some people theorize that those are sounds of the ghosts. Dead miners that came there before you, sounds that are akin to minecarts crashing and people screaming. And the other hair raising scare you can find in Minecraft is a disk called disk 11. The disk when played in a jukebox will play an unnerving set of sounds of a person breathing heavily and running away from someone or something.
