The Favorite writer is working on a Marie Antoinette series

Deborah Davis, writer of The Favorite is writing the historical series and what you should know about it

History buffs can't wait to see Emilia Schüle and Louis Cunningham in the Marie Antoinette series as Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI, respectively, with Jack Archer and James Purefoy rounding out the group. Pete Travis and Geoffrey Enthoven will direct episodes, with Louise Ironside, Avril E. Russell, and Chlo Moss penning the scripts. In addition to Claude Chelli and Margaux Balsan, Marie Antoinette is being produced by Banijay Studios France, Capa Drama, and Alban Étienne and Stéphanie Chartreux.

Series will be shot at Marie Antoinette's former haunts, including Versailles, Vaux-le-Vicomte and Lésigny, Champs and Voisins, as well as Bry-sur-Marne Studios. The Canal+ drama is now in production and will air on BBC Two in the United Kingdom.

In the eight-part historical drama Marie Antoinette, written by The Favourite author Deborah Davis, the emphasis is on one of history's most renowned and brave young queens, who is characterized as "Free, independent and feminist ahead of her time," says the BBC. Additionally, Louise Ironside, Avril E. Russell, and Chlo Moss contributed their work to "The Split" (Run Sister Run). Geoffrey Enthoven and Pete Travis (Bloodlands) are directing the first two seasons of the show (Children of Love).

Banijay Rights' SVP of Sales for the UK and Ireland, Chris Stewart, stated: "Featuring beautiful scenery, superb performances, and enormous costumes, Marie Antoinette is an astonishing fresh new perspective on one of France's most renowned — and controversial — personalities. A follow-up to BBC2's Versailles has been commissioned, and we are delighted to bring the opulence and excitement of French court life to UK audiences once more"

There have been several films and television series based on the life of the last French queen before the French Revolution. One of the most well-known examples is Sofia Coppola's Academy Award-winning film Marie Antoinette, in which Kirsten Dunst featured. Marie Antoinette has yet to get an official release date. We do know, however, that it will be shown on BBC2 and available on the iPlayer. "Marie Antoinette has an everlasting attraction and Deborah Davis has a really distinctive vision for her narrative - we are very pleased to bring this ambitious production to BBC2 and iPlayer," said Sue Deeks, BBC Head of Programme Acquisition. At 14, "the extremely contemporary and avant-garde young queen" fled Austria to marry France's Dauphin (later Louis XVI), leaving her a widow at 14.

For the time being, that's all we know about the narrative, although her actual life story ended in 1793 with the guillotine. Sounds dramatic and exciting and we can’t wait to watch it!
