Netflix premieres suspenseful new teaser for upcoming Stranger Things season

The teaser was shown as part of a fan event the streamer held recently.

At a fan event on Saturday, Netflix gave the most in-depth look at Stranger Things 4.

The 90-second preview, dubbed "Tudum" by the streamer after the two-note entrance sound, transported viewers inside the Creel mansion, which co-creator Matt Duffer described as "a hugely key site" for the upcoming season.

The 90-second preview, however, didn't provide much background, in keeping with Matt Duffer and his brother and co-creator Ross Duffer's spoiler-averse approach. It begins with a flashback to the 1950s, when a family of four moves into a stately home, and then follows a series of increasingly frightening incidents until transitioning to the 1980s.

Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Steve (Joe Keery), and the rest of the gang break into the house looking for... anything.

Victor Creel, a new character played by horror veteran Robert Englund, will be introduced in Season 4. Creel is described as a strange, imposing man who spent the 1950s in a psychiatric facility after committing a heinous murder.

Stranger Things 4 has several new cast members, including Englund. Amybeth McNulty, Myles Truitt, Regina Ting Chen, Grace Van Dien, Tom Wlaschiha, Nikola Djuricko, Mason Dye, and Sherman Augustus will all have recurring parts, as will Jamie Campbell Bower, Eduardo Franco, and Joseph Quinn.

Season four of the show, according to executive producer Shawn Levy, is "by far the most ambitious, cinematic, vast, and epic season that we've ever done... by a lot."

Saturday's teaser follows the release of three earlier cryptic videos in February, May, and August.
