Netflix has released an underrated Robin Williams film

Netflix gives an underrated Robin Williams film a chance for viewers to watch

While many of Robin Williams' films were praised by reviewers and fans alike, one film that was not well received by critics has recently been released on Netflix.

What Dreams May Come, a fantasy drama film starring Williams, Annabella Sciorra, and Cuba Gooding Jr. that was released in 1998, is now available on Netflix. While the film was not universally praised, it did win an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and was nominated for another for Best Art Direction.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a 53 percent Tomatometer score, but fans seemed to like it a lot more, giving it an 84 percent Audience Score based on over 100,000 reviews. What Dreams May Come earned roughly $55 million in the United States, despite an estimated $85 million budget.

Williams plays Dr. Chris Nielsen in the film, who dies in a vehicle accident years after his two children perished in a similar manner. Chris' spirit first stays on Earth to console his heartbroken wife, Annie (Sciorra), but he eventually passes on to his own version of Heaven, where he is greeted by Albert (Gooding) and an old acquaintance, Leona (Rosalind Chao).

When Chris discovers that Annie has killed herself and is now in her own version of Hell, as is usual with persons who commit suicide, Chris' time in Heaven comes to an end. Chris promises to save Annie and bring her to Heaven so they can dwell together forever, enraged by his wife's everlasting resting place. What Dreams May Come is rated PG-13 and available on Netflix in the United States.
