Rockstar released a trailer for the remastered trilogy of the GTA franchise

Enhancements are made for the GTA trilogy

It's official: the iconic Grand Theft Auto trilogy will be released on practically every modern gaming platform later this year, with graphical and gameplay upgrades.

The titles will feature the original three mainstream home console games that initially stepped into completely 3D: Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, according to a teaser trailer posted by Rockstar Games, which you can view above.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will supposedly be released in late 2021 for PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, with iOS and Android versions following in 2022.

Despite enhancements to how it plays and looks, Rockstar Games has reportedly stated that it would remain loyal to its original incarnations.

The first game in the series, Grand Theft Auto for PlayStation 1, was released in 1997 and featured a top-down perspective with some 3D components but was primarily 2D. In 1999, a sequel, in the same manner, was launched on PS1 and Dreamcast.

The series didn't truly revolutionize gaming as we know it until 2001's Grand Theft Auto III for the PlayStation 2, which featured a fully rendered, immersive, polygonal open world where players could choose to progress through the story missions or simply play around in the vast sandbox wreaking havoc on Liberty City.

The franchise had proven to be immensely popular and continues to be a success to this day, with Grand Theft Auto V, the most recent installment, becoming the fastest-selling entertainment product in history when it was published in 2013.
