Peaky Blinders movie will start production in 2023

The hit Netflix series is having another chapter to its story with a movie underway

The Peaky Blinders creator has stated that a feature film adaptation of the show's last episode will begin production in 2023. In addition to this big disclosure, there have been a few new tidbits about the show's impending sixth season and what lies ahead for it after the Shelbys. Speaking at the BFI London Film Festival on Thursday during a panel, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight confirmed, as previously reported by Variety, that editing work on the popular British series' final six-episode run is nearly complete. It's presently scheduled for release in the spring of 2022. A feature film adaptation of the final episode will then be in development with Knight.

After that, Knight plans to pen an independent film set and shot in Birmingham, which he revealed during the discussion. In other words, Peaky Blinders will cease to exist in its current form. The author of the script confirmed to Variety that filming on the movie will begin in 2023 as well. There's still a long way to go before this film wraps up the saga of the Shelbys and their gang.

Knight also hinted at the possibility of "series linked" to the Peaky Blinders universe, but he emphasized that even if spin-offs (a term he avoided using because he "doesn't like it") do happen, he won't necessarily be involved in them since he prefers to "pass on the baton." When Cillian Murphy's Tommy Shelby (Peaky Blinders' boss Tommy Shelby) first appears in the show, it's called Peaky Blinders. From Birmingham in the early twentieth century, Peaky Blinders chronicles the story of the emergence of a gang called the Peakys and Shelby's journey through a perilous underworld. In 2018, the show won Best Drama Series at the BAFTA Awards after receiving multiple nominations. It may be several years before the story of the Peaky Blinders gang is completely wrapped up, but the excitement among fans is at an all-time high, and given Knight's comments about telling new stories in this world, who knows what we might see next? The film adaptation of Peaky Blinders is currently in production. Variety reports that Steven Knight, the show's creator, has claimed that filming on the series finale will begin in 18 months, with a release date of some time in 2023. Not soon, then. However, the day will come.

There have been five seasons of the original Peaky Blinder series, starring Cillian Murphy as early 20th-century gang boss Tommy Shelby, which aired on BBC Two before moving to BBC One, and is now available on Netflix in the United States and other countries. the late Helen McCrory (who appeared in a recurring capacity in the show's second season), alfie evanes-meesse, annabelle wallis, and tommy flanagan) and paul anderson were the original co-stars, and the show later expanded out to include a pretty staggering array of major actors, including tom hardy, adria brody, and anya taylor-joy, among others.

The show's sixth season, according to Knight, has already been shot and is currently being edited. After the sixth season, the show's creator told the BFI London Film Festival that he plans to develop and direct a feature film set in and shot in Birmingham. Thus, Peaky Blinders will likely come to an end in its current incarnation. When asked about making more series in the Peaky Blinders universe, Knight said he's open to the idea but dislikes the word "spin-off" for such "related" ventures and won't be involved in a big creative capacity on them anyhow.

The critically praised series' first five seasons are currently available on Netflix; the show's final and final season will be released in 2022. It will begin production in 2023, but there is no set date for when it will be released. Watch the Peaky Blinders Season 6 Trailer below:
