The Sussexes on How They Feel About UK Tabloids

The Sussexes' attitude toward the tabloids has shifted in the year since they stepped down from their royal roles and relocated to the United States.

Despite the fact that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped down from their senior royal family roles over a year ago, the British tabloids have long been harsher on them than other royal family members, regularly scrutinizing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's every move (and non-move) (and moved out of the U.K. to California).

The tabloids recently took aim at the couple's trip to New York City last week, publishing negative articles about Meghan's wardrobe and its cost, as well as their transportation back to Montecito, California. In one instance, a news outlet referred to Meghan and Harry's appearance at the Global Citizen Live concert as "Wokestock," rather than the official name.

Royal reporter Omid Scobie spoke to a friend of Meghan's about how the couple feels about the UK tabloids' treatment of them now for Harper's Bazaar, which published a recap of their trip. It turns out that their attitude has shifted as they've settled into their new life in California.

The friend said, "The tabloids will do what the tabloids do." “The only difference now is that they don't seem to care. It doesn't get into their heads.”

Meghan and Harry's trip to New York City, which included visits to the United Nations, the One World Observatory, and a Harlem public school, was a success, according to that friend. The friend told the outlet, "This was a knockout trip." “It's a thrilling time....” There is so much they want to accomplish, and there are only two of them, but they are committed.”
